If you are a business owner who does your own social media marketing, you know it is important to keep up with changes and trends. Allow me to start off by saying that I highly recommend hiring someone to manage your social media, but I do understand that some business owners feel compelled to manage their own. Since social media management can be a full-time job in itself for business owners if they want to keep up with the latest information, I have put together a list of my top 5 blogs (and one bonus), who should follow them and why. These are the social media blogs that I find timely and reliable, giving valuable information in a way that makes it easy for business owners to follow and implement.
1. Social Media Examiner
If you only have time to follow one blog, this is the one you want to follow. Social Media Examiner is a huge resource of information for everyone from the beginner to the expert social media user. Their blogs are well-written with great images that help guide the reader through steps or processes. Their blogs provide useful information with very little fluff, and they cover just about any social media topic you could think of. If you need to know about a specific topic, simply type it into the box that appears next to Browse Categories on the right-hand side of the page and you will see a list appear that you can choose from. This is the most comprehensive blog I have found to date.
2. Business 2 Community (B2C)
One of my favorite things about this blog is that it covers a wider range of business topics, which allows me to expand my knowledge and provides me with fresh ideas. This blog not only covers social media, but sales and marketing, business and finance, SEO, and other technology. If you need to search a topic on this site, you will find the search icon in the far top right-hand corner. Business 2 Community offers a well-rounded view of business, trends, and what works and does not. This is not the blog to follow if you have limited time. The topics are broad, and one can get lost in all the information they provide. However, if you are disciplined, this site is a great resource for everything business!
3. Search Engine Journal (SEJ)
This is one of the more recent blogs I follow. I like SEJ because it covers SEO, content marketing, social media, as well as search engines and paid search campaigns. I like this blog because it tends to be a little more advertising and conversion focused. The website is structured in a way that makes topics easy to find. SEJ is definitely a blog to pay attention to!
4. Boom Social with Kim Garst
Kim Garst is the master of social selling. And let’s face it, this is the future of e-commerce. While Boom Social’s blog cover all social media topics, I find Kim to be a great resource for Facebook marketing. I have studied Kim over the past few years, and no one does Facebook like she does! Kim’s articles are very well-written and simplified for anyone to follow. One thing I particularly like about Kim is that she always comes off as very personable in both her articles and her social media posts. This makes her a highly likable in her social media space. While I have seen others copy Kim’s “formula,” I have not seen anyone pull it off as well as she does. Another reason I like following this blog is because I know I can count on reliable information that was well-researched, and it is presented in a way that makes it easy to understand and put into action. If your time is limited, I would recommend checking in with Bom Social from time-to-time to see what Kim is up to. She is a thought leader who is always on top of the trends in social media.
5. Jenn’s Trends
Jenn’s Trends’ Jenn Herman has a passion for Instagram. Although Jenn blogs about all social media, I specifically follow her for her Instagram posts. I love Jenn’s wit and sense of humor in her posts. The post I will always remember is Why I Won’t Follow You on Instagram. This one had me rolling on the floor laughing while totally agreeing with the whole post. Instagram is one of the fastest growing social platforms today and it gets far more engagement than other platforms. If you have not taken your business onto Instagram yet, what are you waiting for? Jenn is a fantastic resource for this platform!
Bonus. Maximize Social Business
My list would not be complete without at least mentioning Maximize Social Business. What I like about this blog is that they use contributing authors, so the reader gets different perspectives and writing styles. All of the blogs I have read have been very well-written and interesting. All the main social platforms are covered, and then some. This one is well worth checking out!
So there you have it! These are my main social media blogs. Sure, there are many others. However, if you follow these social media blogs or even a few of them, you will receive up-to-date information on the topics you need most in your social marketing.
